You will find an amazing range of landscapes in Uzbekistan. The sands of the Kizilkum Desert are bordered by the Aral Sea; the subtropical scenery of the Surkhandarya oasis is protected from the northern winds by the Pamir mountain range, known as "The Roof of the World"; and the foothills of the Tian-Shan Mountains ("Sky Mountains") surround the lush Fergana Valley.

The country has a continental climate. The south of Uzbekistan is the warmest region, while it is coldest in the north. Temperatures in Uzbekistan in December reach an average of 0°C (32 °F) in the south, and -8°C (18°F) in the north. However, temperatures during the winter season in this country can fluctuate wildly to a low of -35°C (-31°F) and shoot up to 45°C (113°F) and above in the summer. Humidity levels are low. The best times to travel to Uzbekistan are in Spring (April to June) and Fall (September through October). The climate is mild at these times, and for a short spell in April, the desert bursts into bloom.

It's harvest time during the Fall and the markets explode with fresh fruit. The almost dry summer is the best time for trekking (July and August). In fact, in recent years, Uzbekistan has been severely affected by global warming, which dried out much of the Aral Sea. As a result, snowy winters turned mild, with less precipitation, enabling travellers to come here even during this normally harsh season.
